רֹאשׁ הַשָּׁנָה‬, literally meaning the "beginning of the year" is the Jewish New Year. The Biblical name for this holiday is Yom Teruah (יוֹם תְּרוּעָה‬), literally "day of blasting". It is the first of the Jewish High Holidays (יָמִים נוֹרָאִים‬ Yamim Nora'im. "Days of Awe") Rosh Hashanah is the first two days of the Jewish new year, Tishrei 1 and 2, beginning at sundown on the eve of Tishrei 1.
